Kana-san's "Island Wheat Coffee" is a grain coffee made from wheat grown on Ikei Island in Uruma City, Okinawa Prefecture, without using coffee beans. The wheat, cultivated naturally without pesticides or chemical fertilizers, is carefully roasted to create a smooth bitterness and a toasty aroma. Since it contains no caffeine, it’s safe to enjoy even before bedtime, making it a perfect choice not only for coffee lovers but also for those conscious of their health.
This "wheat coffee" can be brewed easily using a paper filter, just like drip coffee. Brewing instructions are provided on the back of the package, so even first-timers can enjoy it with ease.
The "Island Wheat by Kana-san" is grown with great care by the members of the Okinawa Wheat Production Association, who emphasize harmony with nature. Even though it’s less efficient to harvest, they remain committed to pesticide-free cultivation, using farming methods that coexist with wild birds and insects to provide safe, high-quality wheat.
On Ikei Island, wheat farming was revived after about 50 years, and now, cultivation and harvesting are carried out by local volunteers. While production is limited due to these circumstances, this special wheat, filled with the passion of the local people, is truly worth savoring.
