- 01While organic farming is practiced without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers, natural farming takes it a step further by avoiding the use of any fertilizers (such as animal manure) and relying solely on the soil’s inherent vitality and natural cycles. We carefully select and carry both types of produce at our store.
- 02We primarily carry organic brown rice certified by the JAS (Japanese Agricultural Standards) from Kumamoto. This rice has passed residual pesticide tests, so you can enjoy it with confidence.
- 03This is our original brown rice blend, made with 36 varieties of traditional Okinawan medicinal herbs. We prepare it with the philosophy of “Nuchigusui” (medicine for life) in mind, so you can easily incorporate health-promoting practices into your daily meals. It has absolutely none of the strong odors or bitterness typically associated with medicinal herbs. Of course, we use only carefully selected organic brown rice.
- 04Organic farming relies on the natural power of the soil to allow crops to grow slowly over time, rather than forcing them to grow large with fertilizers. While the shapes may be irregular, the vegetables have a dense texture and are packed with the rich, natural flavor that vegetables are known for.
- 05This farming method involves returning locally grown grass, fallen leaves, and crop residues that have served their purpose back to the soil, allowing crops to grow without disrupting the natural cycle. Its most distinctive feature is that it does not force growth but instead draws out the plants’ inherent vitality. The main features and benefits are as follows.・A clean, pure flavorSince no chemical fertilizers—or even excessive organic fertilizers—are used, the vegetables do not absorb too much nitrogen and become “overfed.” As a result, they contain less nitrate nitrogen, which causes bitterness and astringency, resulting in a clean flavor that highlights the vegetables’ natural sweetness and aroma.・Concentrated nutritional valueBecause the plants take their time to spread their roots deep into the soil and grow by seeking out nutrients on their own, their cells are dense and their moisture content is maintained at an optimal level. As a result, micronutrients such as antioxidants and minerals are easily concentrated, allowing you to consume high-quality nutrition that is gentle on the body.・Remarkably Long Shelf LifeBecause each cell is robust and firm, the vegetables retain their shape well after harvest and are resistant to spoilage. Generally, they do not “rot” but rather undergo a process of “wilting” (fermentation and drying), offering the economic benefit of being able to use them deliciously until the very end.・The Power of Soil DiversityBecause they are grown in rich soil where diverse microorganisms and insects coexist, the vegetables themselves develop stronger immunity. The core philosophy of natural cycle farming is that this robust vitality is passed on to the vitality of those who eat them.
- 06Since we do not use pesticides, you may occasionally find small insects on the produce. While this is a sign that the produce is safe, if it bothers you, you can easily remove them by rinsing with salt water or washing at 50°C. If the infestation is severe, please do not hesitate to let our staff know. *Note: “50°C wash” refers to a cooking technique in which vegetables and fruits are washed in water at a temperature of approximately 43°C to 52°C.
